Using Digital Products to Boost Your Business

Taking a leap of faith and starting your own business can be exciting and scary all at the same time. Actually, starting your business is easy. Monetizing that business, well… that’s a little bit of a different story.

I chose to take the leap into building my own business when my husband lost his job in 2010 while I was pregnant with our first child. That experience definitely shifted my perspective and I decided, right at that moment, that I would never allow my family to be in the situation where losing a job could put us in a pickle. I was going to create my own business that would be so profitable that we wouldn’t have to worry about money anymore.

From Blog to Boss

After my daughter was born, I spent those late-night feeding sessions googling all of the things and trying to find the best option to start my business. I finally decided on starting a blog and my Practical Mommy blog became my new baby. I really poured myself into it and it was great! I had my own rules, it was my own thing. I could do whatever I wanted! But, there was one little (not so little) problem with it…

I was making practically NO money! Like… not even a little bit of money. The only change I got from my blog was when I got lucky enough to get a few sponsored posts and a few pennies off of ads. My only hope was that something would go viral and that my ads would start paying more.

In 2016, I made the shift from my blog to building funnels and finally started to see some revenue from my work! (cue the angel choir) My knowledge of online marketing and sales skyrocketed as I became immersed in this business and worked with some amazing clients building funnels for their digital products and online courses.

Last year, I decided to come back to my blog and start utilizing it for my very own digital products. With my Practical Mommy blog, I had already created a digital product before digital products were really a thing. My Get It Together Girl planner that I created in 2015 and had been sitting on all that time was finally something I could monetize! After 4 years of sitting on the shelf, I launched my Get it Together Girl Planner in 2019 as a digital product, and within a year, the funnel for that planner generated over $100,000. YES, you read that right, $100,000! 6 figures. In just one year! This was a huge eye-opener for me in just what I could do with my business.

The Top 3 Digital Products and Why YOU Should Go Digital

Digital products are so versatile and there are so many options that you can do with them. They come in all shapes in sizes, including but not limited to:

  • Ebooks: People love to read.
  • Courses: People love to learn.
  • Templates: People need guidance and organization in their lives.

Take it from me: going digital is the way to go. The only thing I wish I could go back and change would be to start doing digital products sooner. Although there wasn’t much of a market for them when my business was starting, the market is huge right now. Digital products are everything and everyone is using them. From business owners to stay at home moms, they are extremely popular and gaining more traction every day. I highly recommend jumping into the world of digital products now, while you’re young and full of energy and ideas. That type of business could pave the way for a beautiful future and a carefree life.

How Will Going Digital Add to My Business?

Part of owning a business is making money. Let’s be honest, it’s probably one of the bigger parts. To make money in a business, you have to sell things, whether it be a service, a physical product, or a digital product.

The big thing that business owners are loving about creating digital products right now? Once it’s completed and launched, the money you generate from it is considered passive income. As in, someone bought your product, took your course, used your template and you didn’t have to do anything except create it and maybe answer a few questions. What if 10 people bought your product? 100? 1,000? The dollar signs start to add up pretty quickly and you will be compensated for the time you spent creating the product and then some without having to do anything other than promote your products.

Three Key Points to Consider when Creating Digital Products

  1. Start now. There will never be a “right time” and you’ll never be “ready.” It’s always a learning experience and an adventure. So buckle up and get busy! The longer you wait, the longer it’ll be before you’re launching yourself to a 6 figure business.
  2. Failure is part of the process. Part of learning is making mistakes. You might create a product that wasn’t as popular as you wished it was, you might get some negative feedback, it might be a total flop. And that’s OK! You will learn how to do it bigger and better, and the only way to go from there is up.
  3. Create it once and watch it sell over and over. Here’s that passive income I mentioned earlier that makes digital products the absolute bee’s knees. You create it one time and then you’re done, but the sales don’t stop!

The future is here and the future is digital products! I’m ranting and raving about it because of the success it’s brought to my life. I believe that everyone deserves to have success by sharing something unique to them.

With digital products, you are your only limit. What are you waiting for? Get creative and get busy!
